Position overview:

Paragon is looking for a highly motivated individual for a Security Team Lead position at Seneca Polytechnic Newnham Campus. The primary purpose of the Security Team Lead is to be responsible for the overall coordination and execution of duties on each shift. The Security Team Lead will work closely with Paragon Management to identify and address issues, concerns and identify areas of improvement.

The hours for this position are continental rotating (0630-1830/1830-0630) and you will be working both day and night shifts. The pay rate for the position starts at $20.00/HR and is based on a leveling system.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and foster an environment that is inducive to learning through security initiatives and building meaningful relationships with community members and key stakeholders.

  • Educate and enforce all College rules and policies.

  • Responsible for the supervision of all security personnel on campus and ensure compliance with College security policies and procedures.

  • Fill in for all other security positions are required.

  • Provide leadership, direction and ongoing coaching and training on incident response, policies and procedures and other duties.

  • Provide insight on personnel performance to Paragon Management, utilizing commendations and progressive discipline techniques where appropriate.

  • Coordinate with Paragon Management regarding the scheduling of all security personnel to ensure adequate staffing and attendance.

  • Investigate and document all security incidents and complaints and escalate to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Inspect and document security equipment such as keysets, patrol tracking devices, radios, vehicles, et cetera.

  • Lead briefings during shift changes to ensure seamless handover and conduct training tabletop exercises.

  • Review and send out emails daily and ensure shift summaries are distributed to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Ensure all incident reports are completed on a timely basis and provide feedback for improvement upon review.

  • Conduct memo book and deportment inspections.

  • Provide support and conduct patrols with Security Guards and take lead on all critical incidents.

  • Notify College Administrators and Paragon Management of critical incidents that occur after hours.

  • Assist with the training of new security personnel.

  • Maintain training certifications on an annual basis or as required.

  • Be up to date with security and College policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned by College Administrators or Paragon Management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be able to work full time, rotational day and night shifts.

  • Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence.

  • Ontario G Class Driver’s Licence and clean driver abstract.

  • Standard First Aid & CPR Level C.

  • Smart Serve Certification.

  • Physically fit to patrol and respond to various emergencies on campus.

  • Police Foundations or related law enforcement post-secondary program graduates preferred.

  • 2 years of security experience in post-secondary, related security experience or security training/formal education.

  • 1 year of security leadership experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong computer literacy (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and acceptable typing skills.

  • Working knowledge of Provincial Offences Act, Criminal Code of Canada, fire prevention, crowd management techniques, crime scene preservation and basic investigative techniques.
